Surprised!

Surprised by Henri Rousseau

This is a picture literally bustling with detail, color and movement. But, even for all the busyness of the painting our eye goes directly to the tiger. He is actively on the move as you see his hind haunches in midair. His eyes are fixed on something ahead that will soon be his prey.

We know that because his mouth is open with all teeth showing. Once at his target he will strike with everything he has. And what about the prey? Will he or she or it be ready to deal with the strength and ferocity of this tiger?

We have here a pictorial representation of Satan on the loose, looking for an opportunity -- an opportunity to devour someone -- to wreak havoc in their life with the intent to ultimately destroy them.

God's word tells us that this is a daily occurrence for everyone. "Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour." 1 Peter 5:8

Are you alert and on guard daily to this impending threat? Satan's attacks come when we least expect them. Therefore we are instructed to "put on the whole armor of God" and to do so daily (Ephesians 2:11a).

On the day that you fail to do so, don't be surprised that you are attacked. Satan is a master at waiting for the opportune time to cause your demise. May everyone of God's children be prepared to stand firm against Him and having done all to stand.
