DAILY DISCIPLINE #148
By Colleen Donahue

It is in Jesus that we see God. If we don't see God in Christ then we will never see him. Jesus Christ is God's last word to men.

Jesus - Man's Last Hope

Studies continued from Matthew 16: 1-4

Day 1- In their desire to eliminate Jesus, the Pharisees and the Sadducees had come together. These sects could not have been more different. They believed opposites about most things. But, "All error has in common that it is hostile to Christ." (William Barclay) As so they came together with a demand for Christ.
Matthew 16:1 / Luke 11:16 / John 2:18

Day 2- Hypocrisy is an ever present element in false religions and Jesus reproves them for it.
Matthew 16: 2-3 / Luke 12: 56-57

Day 3- What does Jesus mean then by the "sign of Jonah" in this verse?
Matthew 16:4

Jonah, in giving his message to the people of Nineveh, never used his "whale" experience to get them to believe. He came to them with a message from God. Jonah himself was the sign. Now Jonah is a type of Christ in the Old Testament and so Jesus is saying that it is His own life and message that is the sign from God. Jesus Christ is God's last word to man.
John 8: 26 / John 12: 49-50 / John 14:6, 10,24 / John 17: 8

Day 4- It is in Jesus that we see God the Father. If we don't see God in Christ we will never see Him. If Jesus then is man's last hope why is it that some men can't or won't see Him for the sign that He is?
Acts 28:27 / Romans 3:11 / 2 Corinthians 4:4 / Ephesians 4:18 / 2 Timothy 3:7

Day 5- If Jesus is rejected by men as the final sign from God, what becomes of their life?
Deuteronomy 28:29/ Psalm 82:5 / Proverbs 4:19 / Isaiah 59:9-15 / 1 John 1:6

Day 6- A person's attitude towards Christ will sum up their attitude towards God.
John 3:18-19
