God is Waiting To Bless Your Sowing!

The Sower by Vincent Van Gogh

"Thus the saying, 'One sows and another reaps' is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work and you have reaped the benefits of their labor." John 4:37-38

This sower has taken an early start. With a big bag of seed around his shoulders he is already mid field scattering it over the plowed ground. With the sun shining high on the horizon it's going to be a beautiful day. He is bent to his task. He will be the one to start the cycle of growth.

It's significant that this man has no face. In the whole cycle of sowing and reaping, it is God who is the important one. Thus our eye goes to the bright yellow sun on the horizon. God is the light and energy behind all that is part of earth. He provides the seed. He provides the sun, and air and rain.

Notice once your eye has seen the sun that it goes next to the sower. Could this faceless man be like all of us that belong to God and are committed to fulfilling His purpose here in this world?

It is the sower that takes the seed God gives him and scatters it. If he doesn't lift it out of his bag the seed will rot. If he won't scatter it on the prepared soil it will never fulfill the purpose for which it was created. Another may do the reaping and get the glory but without the sower nothing can even start! What a thought that the Almighty God of the whole universe naturally waits upon man to scatter his seed first before He blesses. The sower scatters his seed believing that it will respond to the sun and air and rain and that it will produce a crop. Without thinking about it he acts in faith.

Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. That is the position the farmer is always in. That is the position we are in every time we give of our time, talents, or money which is our seed.

As we invest ourselves in the field that God has placed us in, He then goes to work on that seed to produce a harvest that is many times greater than what we have given.

Our sowing pleases God very much. When we give from the treasure that God has given to us we are walking in faith. We are declaring that there is a God and that He will do something with our seed to cause a crop that will be able to feed many. In fact without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6a).

Don't concern yourself with being known for what you sow (or give). Sow your seed only with an eye for pleasing your Father in Heaven. Another may reap what you have sown but God sees your giving and He will reward you Himself

Matt 6:3-4
"But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. " RSV
