Where Did It All Start: The Very Beginning

John, who was Jesus' closest disciple chose to begin his eye-witness account of Christ's life back in eternity

Where Did It All Start? The Very Beginning

There is a deeper level to this question where did it all start? John was Jesus’ closest disciple. He chose to start his eye-witness account of Jesus (called the Gospel of John) back in eternity rather than in Bethlehem. The first verses of John’s gospel are pretty startling! Here is what John wrote: In the beginning the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone.”

WHO was John talking about here?  He was talking about Jesus.  John then goes on to write this; “ So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”

You see, John was convinced that the story started back with God.  Jesus was with God in eternity and was his partner in the creation of the world. John continues – “No one has ever seen God. The only Son (Jesus), who is the same as God and is at the Father's side, he has made him known.”

So John says that the story of Jesus begins with God himself. But we’ll suspend judgment on that for now. We need first to look at his life, teaching, claims, death and resurrection. Then we’ll be able to make an informed decision.
